Don't be Disco, be Deviant Disco!
À propos
Such could be the motto of this unusual tribe, made up of a gathering of crate diggers, DJ's, visual artists, performers and, ultimately, open-minded party-goers. Their aim: to get you dancing to sounds that are far, far removed from conventional mass-market club playlists. Born in the late '70s on the ashes of psych-rock and flower power, disco music has its roots in the big clubs of the New York area and in underground venues. Alas, it sometimes ended up sounding tedious and formatted. As with all genres, however, a few artists managed to break away from the original mainstream disco look, hijacking the musical style while giving birth to more thoughtful sub-genres. In the early '80s, the Italian cosmic disco scene paved the way for italo disco; in Europe, numerous composers - Belgian, French, German and Turkish, among others - gave birth to their own definition of disco music. Before long, avid listeners would find disco productions available all over the world, in Southeast Asia, Africa, Brazil or even the Indian subcontinent, each region adding its own blend to the genre's canon. In Europe, the massive use of synthesizers and merciless drum machines gradually sidelined complex melodies, giving rise to what came to be known as synth wave and death disco. Deviant Disco was born of all these musical trends. But DD isn't just a team of DJs and furious diggers, it's also a label and a party organizer. Something that looks like disco, but isn't really: stay tuned for deviant releases, public events and musical delicatessen.
